A tea house architecture has been representative of the Japanese culture since KAMAKURA period.(1192~) In Japan, the tea house is originally made for which the host invites guests to serve green tea and hospitality. However, it is also used as a place in relax due to the splendor of its spatial construction. If you had your own tea room in your garden, you will feel Wabi-Sabi * anytime as if you were in Japan. Constructing 'tea house' is only possible to build by the carpenters having enough skills, experience and fine sense of Sukiya*
*"Wabi" means "simple beauty" which does not include decorations and luxury.
"Sabi" refers to old beauty hidden in abandoned things.
*Sukiya - A room where the tea ceremony is conducted, or a building constructed in that style.
`Kyo-Machiya' is the characteristic architecture in Kyoto which had built between MEIJI and SHOWA periods(around 1868 - 1945). It has a narrow frontage but deep room layout, therefore it is called 'Eel bedding'*. Such as a projecting lattice, passage garden* and the box-using stairs ( pilled up on storage boxes), Machiya still remains strong tradition and culture of Kyoto. We provide the well thought-out deign and room layout to build a second house for your special guests. *An earthen floor connecting the entrance and the back yard is called Tori-niwa (passage garden).
The old house is the traditional architecture which is made with wood, soil and paper. It is constructed by putting the right materials in the right place, so that it has been in good condition for 200~300 years as long as you maintain it properly. There are many different architectural styles depending on the time and area, and all of them are filled with the Japanese aesthetic values . For example, fumigated fireplace column, wall clay with aged shading, tatami which is used by taking off your shoes, and so on.
